FAQs

  • What is Motorcycle accident Victims?

Motorcycle Accident Victims (MAV) is a non-profit organization that was established in 1994 to help our fellow riders in their time of need. We hold two fundraisers per year to raise money so we can provide assistance to those riders injured in motorcycle accidents due to no fault of their own.

  • Is MAV a club? How can I join?

Motorcycle Accident Victims (MAV) is not a club (see above), however you can email us and ask to be a supporter of MAV. For a $20 donation, we’ll send you an MAV supporter patch and add you to our email list for notice of future events. Our email is info@motorcycleaccidentvictims.org

  • I had a motorcycle accident, how do I go about getting assistance from MAV?

There are several ways you can contact MAV to get assistance. Our website is a great place to start. Just click on “Need our help” either on the front page tile or under the Resources tab. We’ll guide you through our application process for assistance and give you access to our legal expert if needed. You can contact MAV’s President by email at info@motorcycleaccidentvictims.org

  • What information will I need to provide to be eligible for assistance?

We provide assistance to downed riders through no fault of your own. You must be legally operating the motorcycle with the proper endorsement if needed and valid insurance. In order to provide you with help, we typically will need a police report which will indicate you were not at fault in the accident. We also recommend, as with any accident, that you take pictures. Although we don’t require them, if you have them available please send them to us. Also, we will need to know what type of assistance you are requesting (ie:help with mortgage payment, utility assistance, food, etc).

  • What is the process to qualify for assistance and how long does it take?

Once we receive all your documentation, the Board will hold an emergency meeting to determine eligibility. If you have not provided a copy of the bill(s) you are asking us to pay, we will ask you to do that so we may forward a check to your creditor. The process moves very quickly once you are approved. You will be notified by our claims officer when you have been approved.

  • Do you provide assistance all over the U.S.?

Unfortunately, due to the small size of our organization, we currently provide assistance to riders in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

  • What type of financial assistance do you help with?

If approved, MAV will pay: Mortgage, Electric, Oil, Gas, Phone bills. Car/Bike Insurance payments.Provide Gift cards for Food and other miscellaneous expenses as approved.

  • What types of bills don’t you pay?

MAV does not provide financial assistance to cover Medical bills.

  • Is there a limit on how much I can receive?

MAV has a $1,000 cap on each claim.

  • Am I required to pay the money back that I receive?

Although it is not a requirement to repay the money, we do ask that if you receive a settlement from the insurance company or the at fault driver, that you reimburse us so that we may continue to help others in their time of need.

  • I would like to volunteer at one of your events. How do I do that?

We always welcome volunteers. Please email our President at info@motorcycleaccidentvictims.org to get on board.

  • Do you allow vendors at your events?

Absolutely! We ask motorcycle related vendors to fill out a Vendor Application and return it to us at least 30 days in advance of an event. Email info@motorcycleaccidentvictims.org and ask for a Vendor App and we’ll get one to you right away. We do reserve the right to limit 1 vendor per category on a first come – first served basis.

  • How do I donate to MAV through the United Way of Delaware?

Designate to the United Way that your donation is to be designated to Motorcycle Accident Victims (Pledge #9615).
